Human brain is the birthplace of brilliant ideas. It is very complex and intricate. It sends and receives information and processes everything for less than a second. It carries us out of the ordinary world into the world of excitement. It brings us into the land of never fading beauty and mystery. It is the bridge we use to cross to reach the impossible things. And such bridge also leads us to reality. But don’t you know that our brain is more than that? It is divided into three ways according to how it functions, the conscious, unconscious, and subliminal level.
The conscious level is the one responsible for things that we are aware of. It tells us we are mentally awake or alert. The things we do when we are conscious are intentional. We are aware about our thoughts and actions, which is why we can react immediately. Using the same logic, once we say unconscious it refers to things that we do unintentionally; things we’re not aware of. This is why we cannot immediately make decisions. The person is asleep during the unconscious stage.

The first two mentioned above are very familiar to us, but aside from these, there still is one more level in our brain: the subliminal level. This is a combination of the word sub, which means below, and limen, a Latin word for threshold. In simple terms, subliminal means below the threshold of consciousness, or any psycho-physical change so slight so as not to effect the consciousness. A very good example of this is the movie Lord of the Rings. Don’t you know that the ring used in that film has a word engraved on it? It is Coca-cola, and we are not aware of it. This is what we call a subliminal message. This style is used to make people absorb real messages behind everything without any awareness. You might be conscious in watching the movie but you are not aware that you are already receiving a subliminal message.
The word “Coca-cola” on the ring triggers you to drink Coke. It is amazing, right? But actually it’s not, because the enemy is using this kind of technique to deceive us. For the devil has come down, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time. (Revelations 12:12 NKJV). He will do everything on his power to destroy many. He is now using worldly music, pornography, internet, magazines, products and other things. It is very alarming that our youth today are greatly amused by worldly songs and because of back masking. Thank God we are now able to know the real meaning of those songs.
But still, there is more. Subliminal messages are also used in logos of products, endorsements, etc. We are not aware of this. Subliminal messages can be dangerous. Sensitivity is very important. The devil is always there watching us and if we are not careful, he will take that opportunity to deceive us. But always remember that God has given us the wisdom and the power to overcome.
